Policy on access and use

The Museo Egizio is pleased to release the digital reproductions in the public domain of the Photographic Archive in CC0 (Creative Commons — CC0 1.0 Universal). You can freely reuse the images for any purpose, including commercial, completely free of charge and without further permission from the Museo Egizio. In fact, the terms of use expressed here substantiate the authorisation given in accordance with art. 108 of Legislative Decree 42/2004 with no fee for any possible commercial re-use. The Museo Egizio has thus decided to renounce all rights to the reproductions, which it manages on the basis of art. 10 of the founding act of the Fondazione Museo Egizio, in order to return this extraordinary heritage of images to the community, which is its legitimate owner.

We believe that the free reuse of images of public cultural heritage in the public domain is now fully part of the mission of the contemporary museum, which is increasingly measured by the ability to stimulate mechanisms for the production of value from below, offering new opportunities for development to citizenship from the cultural, economic and social point of view, in a concrete perspective of democracy of knowledge.

You are therefore free to reuse and revive the images as you wish. We only ask that you correctly cite the source (Archivio Museo Egizio, alphanumeric code of the selected image) and inform us of your publications, so that together we can contribute to the enhancement of your heritage.

The same use of images applies to the photographic heritage belonging to the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the University of Turin and the Centro di Egittologia Francesco Ballerini in Como. The photographs in the State Archive in Turin, marked as required, are instead available for consultation only.
