The photograph shows the ruins of the south side of the colonnaded hall of the Temple of Gerf Hussein, built by Ramesses II for the god Ptah. Three local inhabitants pose for the camera. In the 1960s (1962-1963), the remains of the colonnade were dismantled and moved to the area of New Kalabsha, a location on higher ground not far from Aswan. The part excavated into the rock however, was submerged by Lake Nasser. The author's signature is at the bottom right.

Some colossal statues of Ramesses II can still be seen leaning against the pillars. At the bottom, the photograph is blurred, with the author's signature also placed at the bottom.
